About the Publisher
Dan Cafaro is the founder and publisher of Atticus Books, a small, independent publishing house located in Old Town Kensington, Md., a close-in community of Washington, D.C.
Dan has worked in various forms of print and electronic media for 20-plus years, with an emphasis on manuscript acquisitions, project development and program management. He has commissioned the work of more than 100 book authors in various genres, and has cultivated many strong relationships with industry professionals including booksellers, editors, compositors and graphic designers.
A poet, self-taught journalist and former sportswriter from Hasbrouck Heights, N.J., Dan owned and operated Chapters Revisited, a quaint brick-and-mortar bookshop in Doylestown, Pa., from 1995 to 1999. As an entrepreneurial vendor during the evergreen days of dot.com startups, he adopted early to selling books online and, in the process, learned the many sides and facets of the book business.
Despite being an old soul, he continues each day to learn new trade tricks, and currently lives on Peyton Place (just kidding, neighbors) with his amazing wife, precocious daughter and hedonistic Brittany Spaniel in the outer D.C. suburbs and backwoods of Maryland.

Hi Dan,
I didn’t realize this is what you do. I’m working on a book currently, about my time with my friend Dr. Frederick Franck. He was a famous artist/writer who among other things worked with Albert Schweitzer in Africa as a Dental Surgeon. When I finish it… Maybe you can give me your opinion.

Bruce,
I would be glad to review your manuscript – perhaps this will give you extra motivation to complete it! It sounds like your time and interactions with Dr. Franck are well worth documenting – and should be recorded for historic interest alone. Any unknown information or insight about Schweitzer would be icing on the brandy snaps!
Cheers,
Dan
I’ve been messing around on the site and I find it really interesting. I have a manuscript that I’m currently trying to force agents to read. Sadly, they’re a stubborn bunch.
You encourage writers to submit shorter works first, which is fine, I have many I’d love to share. My question is, does it matter if the shorts have been published before?
And did you get your email link fixed on the submission page? It wasn’t working yesterday.
Thanks, awesome site with tons of information by the way. I’ll definitely direct people here.
